The thought of weight loss for most people conjures up images of exhausting exercise programs and unappealing diet foods, but a good weight loss plan does not need to make you feel miserable. If you want to lose those 10 pounds and get fresh air and fun at the same time, you should check out bicycling. This was probably one of your favorite things to do as a child.

One of the major benefits of many to biking is that it is actually the only type of exercise that can also be used for transportation. A popular reason that deters most people from losing weight is that they are on a tight schedule. A person may decide to lose 10 pounds by joining the local gym and going there a few times a week to work out. It seems like a super idea until other commitments, such as staying late at work or picking up little Johnny from karate, take precedence and you wind up continually skipping the gym. Suddenly your gym workout routine is broken because something else always pops up that takes away your time for it.

Now you decide to change your course of action and skip the gym altogether so that you can bike to work every day to lose 10 pounds. It may take you a bit longer to shed those pounds but you are losing no time by biking to work. In fact, if you reside in the city, chances are that it will not take much longer to bike to work than if you rode in a car. When you think about it, you will lose 10 pounds without making time for exercise and it's almost like a freebie.



Consider that when you are doing other types of exercise, you are only getting to do that one type of activity. In other words, you really can't do much else other than work out when you are at the gym. However, when you take your bicycle as a form of transportation, the exercise part of that activity becomes a bonus. An additional reward is that it you save money spent on other forms of transportation and biking is environmentally friendly. It would be difficult to dispute that bicycle riding is one of the best ways you can exercise.

To sum it up, try to ride your bike back and forth to work everyday if you want to lose 10 pounds in a short time without interfering with your personal agenda. If this idea is impossible because your job is too far away and it requires you to use another form of transportation, think about riding your bicycle to do chores before or after work hours. Also, remember from your childhood that biking is a great recreational activity and riding that bike on your days off will help you to lose 10 pounds more quickly, too.
